2026 Community Harvest Garden Adopt-a-Plot Agreement

Community Harvest Adopt-A-Plot Agreement
Mission Statement: Community Harvest Garden is an outreach of Community Unitarian Universalist Church.  We are a community of gardeners who nurture the Earth’s resources to produce organic food and share this bounty with our neighbors in need.  As a community of gardeners, we create a compassionate, welcoming, and respectful place.

All gardeners must submit this signed agreement annually before working a plot.

In support of our Mission, each Community Harvest Gardener will:

  1. Pay an annual $45 fee, $25 for a half plot or for half a year.

  2. Be responsible for weeding his/her plot and 1.5’ border surrounding plot.  (A minimum of weekly tending including watering, weeding, and harvesting is required during peak growing season.)

  3. Contribute 2-hours toward community maintenance of the garden each month.

  4. Agree to donate 50% of produce from plot.   All ripe, unmarked produce available at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday mornings will be harvested for donation to local food pantries.

  5. Participate in a community harvest once a month during peak harvest seasons. (1-2 hours)

  6. Continuously produce vegetables by succession planting, mulching all soil with organic matter, and practicing conservation watering techniques.

  7. Attend a minimum of two socials during the year.

  8. Learn and use best practices for organic gardens.

  9. Avoid stepping in the garden beds resulting in compacted soil.

  10. Never harvest for self from another gardener’s plot or work another garden unless permission is given by that gardener.

  11. Respect neighboring plots by keeping vines and shade from tall plants or trellis within plot borders. Gardeners are permitted to prune plants obstructed pathways.

  12. Keep areas litter free.

  13. Refrain from use of drugs, alcohol, tobacco or vaping on garden grounds.

  14. Refrain from bringing pets into the garden area.

  15. Refrain from composting dog and cat feces.

  16. Refrain from requesting donations on behalf of the garden without prior written authorization by the Leadership Team.

  17. Inform the Leadership Team immediately if unable to maintain adopted plot for any reason (i.e. health, work or other reasons). Prepare a mid-year forfeited plot for the next gardener by clearing it of any non-producing plants and weeds.

Your plot will be adopted out to another gardener after two contacts regarding breach of these conditions.

I,

agree to follow the guidelines listed above in exchange for receiving a garden plot in the Community Unitarian Universalist Church Community Harvest Garden.  I understand that the church is not responsible for my actions.   I therefore agree to hold harmless the Community Unitarian Universalist Church of Plano for any liability, damage, loss or claim that occurs in connection with use of the garden by me or any of my guests.  I agree to follow all guidelines set forth.
